Aftercare

Looking after your

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure the longevity and vibrancy of your new look. The healing process can vary from person to person, but with the right care, you can achieve beautiful, lasting results.

In the following sections, you'll find guidelines to help you care for your brows or lips during the healing period. By following these steps, you can minimise discomfort, prevent infection, and maintain the integrity of your semi-permanent makeup and filler injections.

Semi permanent brow aftercare

Please note that it is your responsibility to correctly follow aftercare. Only by you following it correctly we can achieve good results.

1. Today after the treatment clean the area every 30 minutes until you go to sleep using a damp cotton wool pad.

2. After the last clean, dab a very thin amount of your aftercare cream into the brows.

3. The next day and for the following 4 days, dab the cream 3 times a day into the brows (very thin layer so the skin can breathe).

Wash hands before and after application and use a clean finger each time to avoid infection. If a crust appears on the pigmented surface do not force the removal by picking, scratching or washing. Pigment may be removed along with the crust.

For 2 to 10 days after treatment, the procedure area may experience the following
symptoms:

  • Flaking
  • Tenderness
  • Dryness and itching - this is normal
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Colour of eyebrows gets much darker because of scabs - this is normal
  • When scab fall off colour of pigment look very light, but will resurface in 3 weeks’ time - this is normal

Important do-nots for 2 weeks

1. Soaps, facial cleansers, water on pigmented areas. If the area does get wet, pat dry very gently with a clean towel or tissue.
2. Washing pigmented area.
3. Chlorine pools.
4. Retin-A on pigmented areas.
5. Makeup on pigmented area for 5 days, including non-allergenic.
6. Hot, steamy, long showers.
7. Sun/sunbeds on pigmented areas.
8. Jacuzzi or saunas.
9. Make sure you wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to stop water running down you face. Do not try to hide your eyebrows with your fringe in the first 2 days, this is the easiest way to cause infection - keep you fringe away from your eyebrows.
10. Shower with your back to the water to avoid water, shampoo and conditioner from getting into the pigmented areas. Have a sufficient amount of provided cream on the pigmented area during showers. Do not be alarmed by any fading after the first application. The final colour cannot be
udged until at least 3 weeks after the touch up applications are completed. This is the reason follow-ups are required.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Your skin needs to repair itself so the excess pigment particles that are sat on the surface dry up and form a crust along with skin cells (depending on the skin type some clients hardly notice the crust whilst others have a definite scab). This will come away gradually over the next week to 10 days sometimes a little longer. Sometimes looks like hardly any pigment has held, this is normal. It's almost like the skin has formed a milky opaque layer over the pigment as a protection to the newly regenerated skin cells. The colour will resurface over the following 4 weeks and so it's far too early to worry or judge the results only a week after the treatment. Also, we have to be honest and make clear the realistic expectations of a permanent makeup treatment. Natural mineral based pigment is inserted very shallow into the skin so it heals like a skin tint. It can never be as dark or as vibrant or give the same coverage as conventional makeup regardless of the pigment choice. Makeup gives a camouflage effect to the skin, pigment blends with the natural skin tone.

GENERAL POST PROCEDURE INFORMATION
In order to keep your permanent cosmetic work in perfect condition it may be necessary to have a maintenance procedure about every 9 to 18 months, though this will vary for each individual. The cost of these procedures is roughly half that of the original procedure. Please see current price list for details. To avoid pigment fade for as long as possible, avoid excessive exposure to the sun or UV rays and use a good sunscreen with an SPF50.

If you are planning an MRI scan, chemical peel or any other similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had permanent cosmetics. You should not be eligible to give blood for 6 months after your procedure, please inform the National Blood Service of your procedure and date if you want to give blood.

If you are planning injections such as Botox and Collagen remember it can alter the shape of your eyebrows.

Laser hair removal can fade and change the shade of your brow procedures, always advice the laser technician you are wearing permanent cosmetics and they can act accordingly.

Lip Blush Aftercare

Following your aftercare is vital to achieve the best results. Please review the following instructions and refer to them as necessary. If during the healing process you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact us.

You may experience the following symptoms for 4 days:

  • Swelling and redness.
  • Tenderness.
  • Dry flaking skin as the lips heal
  • Dry skin that may remain for 3 weeks

These symptoms are a normal part of the healing process – do not itch, pick or touch as you will heal unevenly and risk infection from bacteria.

For the first two days:

  • Cold packs can be applied to the lips to reduce swelling and help with sensitivity.
  • Lightly pat the lips with damp cotton wool if any lymph (looks like water droplets) arise from the surface

Daily care (to follow for one week):

  • Apply a healing balm regularly using a cotton bud, Use a new bud each time to prevent cross contamination
  • Avoid getting the lips wet and submerged in water for 1 week, if the lips get wet then dab with dry tissue and re apply the balm
  • Keep your hair away from your enhancement to prevent the possibility of infection.
  • Some itching is normal. Do not pick, peel or rub your enhancement as the colour may heal unevenly. Allow the colour to flake away by itself.
  • Do not receive skincare beauty treatments for 5 days after the application of your enhancement.
  • No make-up should be applied close to the lips for 1 week after your treatment. Facial makeup is fine to apply just nothing directly on your lips; we careful when removing foundation around and cleansing not to touch your lips.
  • No kissing for 5 days to prevent infection
  • Avoid eating salty and spicy foods for 5 days

Avoid for two weeks:

  • Do not expose your enhancement to direct sun, tanning treatments, Jacuzzis, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools and direct shower spray.
  • Do not use lip plump products
  • Do not receive lip filler or any injections in the lips

Important notes

If you suffer with cold sores at present or any time in the past, use an anti herpes medication Zovirax, 5 times a day for a 1 week period. Acyclovir tablets can also be used a few days before and during healing to prevent an outbreak.

If an outbreak does occur its usually on the 3rd day of healing. Remember, your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined immediately after your treatment.

What to expect:

  • Day 1-2 the colour will appear darker
  • Around day 2-5 they may get itchy and flakes of colour may come away from the skin, this will come off in patches and is completely normal
  • Once the flakes are all off the pigment may appear light in colour – the chosen pigment will blossom during the 4 week healing
  • Around 2 weeks the true colour will be visible and the external skin has healed
  • At 4 weeks the internal skin has healed
  • Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of colour is to be expected. This is the purpose of the control visit allowing us to fine tune your enhancement.

Long term care:

  • Use a good sunscreen. Sun exposure will fade your micro-pigmentation enhancement.
  • If you are planning a chemical peel, laser procedure or an MRI scan, please inform the technician of your micro-pigmentation enhancement.
  • Please inform the National Blood Service if you donate blood, as you may not be eligible to give blood for 4 months post application.
