About the service

Combination brows, also known as hybrid brows or combination eyebrow tattooing, is a semi-permanent makeup technique that combines both microblading and shading (ombre) to create natural-looking, well-defined eyebrows. This technique is highly popular because it offers the best of both worlds by using hair-like strokes (microblading) and a soft, shaded background (ombre shading).

Combination brows offer a versatile and natural-looking result that combines the precise, hair-like strokes of microblading with the soft, shaded effect of ombre shading. This technique is suitable for individuals with varying degrees of eyebrow hair density and is often preferred by those looking for a well-defined, filled-in, yet natural appearance.

What's included in the service?

1) Step 1

Consultation: The process begins with a consultation with your combination brow artist. During this consultation, you discuss your eyebrow goals, preferences, and any specific concerns you have. Your artist will assess your natural eyebrows and facial features to create a customised design.

2) Step 2

Numbing: Before the procedure, a topical numbing cream is applied to the eyebrow area to minimise discomfort. The numbing cream usually takes about 20-30 minutes to take effect.

3) Step 3

Design: Your artist will carefully design the shape of your combination brows, considering your preferences and facial features. The design includes defining the outline and tail of the brows.

4) Step 4

Microblading: Microblading is the first step, where your artist uses a machine with fine needles to create hair-like strokes in the areas where you want a natural, textured appearance. These strokes simulate the look of individual eyebrow hairs.

5) Step 5

Ombre Shading Application: Then the artist uses a shading technique to fill in the remaining areas of your eyebrows. The shading involves the application of pigment in a soft, powdered manner. This creates a more filled-in, gradient effect, especially in areas where the natural hair is sparse.

Pre-treatment advice
Do's
  • Consultation: Schedule a consultation with your microblading artist to discuss your expectations, desired eyebrow shape, and any questions or concerns you may have.
  • Research the Artist: Choose a qualified and experienced microblading artist with a good reputation. Look at their portfolio and read reviews from previous clients.
  • Communicate Your Preferences: Clearly communicate your desired eyebrow shape, color, and any specific concerns you have with your artist during the consultation.
  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimise sun exposure to the eyebrow area for at least two weeks before the treatment. Sunburned or tanned skin can affect the pigment absorption.
  • Stop Using Retinol and AHA: Discontinue the use of skincare products containing retinol and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) at least one week before your appointment. These ingredients can make the skin more sensitive and increase the risk of bleeding and uneven pigment absorption.
Don'ts
  • Don't Wax or Thread: Avoid waxing, threading, or plucking your eyebrows for at least two weeks before the procedure. Your artist needs to work with your natural hair for the best results.
  • Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications: If you're taking blood-thinning medications or supplements, consult your healthcare provider about temporarily discontinuing them before the treatment. This can help reduce the risk of bleeding during the procedure.
  • Don't Use Aspirin or NSAIDs: Avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for at least 24-48 hours before your appointment, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • No Exfoliation: Avoid using exfoliating skincare products on the eyebrow area for at least one week before the treatment.
  • Don't Rush the Decision: Take your time to make a well-informed decision about the shape and style you want for your eyebrows. Microblading is semi-permanent, so you want to be sure about your choices.
  • No Alcohol or Caffeine: Refrain from consuming alcohol and excessive caffeine the day before your appointment, as they can contribute to increased bleeding.
Post-treatment advice
Do's
  • Follow Aftercare Instructions: Pay close attention to the aftercare instructions provided by your microblading artist. These instructions are essential for proper healing and long-lasting results.
  • Keep the Area Clean: Gently clean the eyebrow area with a mild, non-alcoholic, and fragrance-free cleanser as recommended by your artist. Avoid using harsh or scented products.
  • Apply Healing Ointment: Apply the prescribed healing ointment or cream to the treated area as directed by your artist. This helps with moisturization and prevents infection.
  • Protect from Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds during the healing process, as UV rays can fade the pigment and cause irritation. Use a wide-brimmed hat or sunglasses if necessary.
  • Keep the Area Dry: Avoid excessive sweating, swimming, and submerging your face in water for at least a week after the procedure. Moisture can interfere with the healing process and pigment retention.

Don'ts

  • Don't Pick or Scratch: Resist the urge to pick, scratch, or rub the treated area, as this can remove pigment and potentially lead to infection.
  • Avoid Makeup: Steer clear of makeup, especially eyebrow makeup, for at least one week post-microblading. Makeup can introduce bacteria to the healing area.
  • Avoid Chemical Peels and Facials: Refrain from chemical peels, facials, and other skincare treatments that involve exfoliation on or near the treated area for a few weeks.
  • No Saunas or Steam Rooms: Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and excessive sweating from intense workouts, as heat and moisture can affect the healing process.
  • Don't Overexert: Minimise physical exertion that causes sweating during the initial healing phase. Sweat can affect the pigment's retention.
